Zilla Leutenegger: L’Ouest ou l’Est

La poésie de la vie quotidienne se retrouve dans la monumentalité baroque de l’église du monastère de Bellelay. Zilla Leutenegger pénètre dans le vide apparent de l’église du monastère comme si elle était une feuille non décrite. Avec l’installation L’ouest ou l’est, Zilla Leutenegger questionne les habitudes de visionnement des gens et, avec beaucoup d’empathie, crée des espaces à partir de fragments de mémoire. Ce sont des espaces de rêve.

"The poetry of the everyday invades the baroque monumentality of Bellelay abbey. Zilla draws into the seeming emptiness of the church as if it were a blank sheet of paper. From her first visit to the site it is clear that the artist will devote herself to the space without aiming to outdo it. Humbly, she will listen to the history of the space, bathe in the light that floods it, absorb its sounds – then leave her own trace with a light, poetic installation. The dialogue between the media of drawing, video installation and sculptural elements is characteristic of Zilla Leutenegger’s
work. Starting with her compellingly simple drawings, which allow for the incomplete and the sketchy, she creates worlds composed of both perception and imagination."
